@MagnumPI4 The Mujaheddin are not the Taliban, they are independent freedom fighters and in the currnt Order of Battle they form part of the Northern Alliance which during the initial days of conflict in Afghanistan helped to fight and oust the Taliban, The Taliban is what you could call a political party (a highly religious one) who sheltered and co-operated with Al-Qaeda. The soviets hoped to keep the communist regime in power and the Mujaheddin fought this.

@black39gold yes they did fund them starting in 1979 and ending in 1981 after the soviets were defeated in afghanistan. Originally Osama and the mujaheddin were fighting for their countries freedom from the soviets, but after the soviets left they had all these weapons and money still so they started to fight against US bases in Saudi Arabia and formed the terrorist organization (al-qaeda) the world knows today. The Saudis funded 9/11, and the 2002 bali bombings.
