JOSEPH SCHMIDT(1904-1942) WAS ONLY 4' 10" TALL. HE DID APPEAR ON STAGE IN THE OPERA TOSCA. HE ALSO SANG COMPLETE RADIO POTTED VERSIONS OF OPERA DURING THE EARLY 1930'S. THESE WERE NOT PRESERVED. HERE HE SINGS A MAGNIFICENT..."UNA FURTIVA LAGRIMA", TAKEN FROM HIS USA RADIO DEBUT CONCERT IN 1937...
ENJOY!!!!

  • joseph did not sing Tosca on stage but Boheme in Belgium.

  • incredible

  • i live to one fine day sing that trill gotta love him, but he sings better than this such passion it's lost i hope i can have it one day

  • On hitting certain notes i swear his teeth would vibrate in his mouth.

  • He feels it

  • Magnificent. Probably the most passionate performance of this aria I've ever heard! *subscribes*

  • 13 sec . trill at the end has to be one of the longest live in Concert from a tenor. great voice but tragic life.

  • Nice to hear Milton Cross on the radio, Schmidt sang UNA FURTIVA also in the studio recording and sang it straighter of course, shorter trill at the end etc. He sang Boheme on stage but at 4 foot ten inches the soprano I read was still taller by quite a lot and they had given his higher heels on his shoes but his voice was ten feet tall .

  • he also sang Boheme on stage.

  • very passionate and very well sung, love that ENDING!
