Ian Bell gets run out while walking off the field for tea.
England vs India (Trent Bridge) - 31 July 2011

Ian Bell smashes a shot to the boundary and is stopped on the rope. Bell, thinking that he'd got a four, walks down the wicket towards waiting Owain Morgan thinking tea had been called and was stumped by wicket-keeper MS Dhoni.

After the players had gone in for tea, the Indian team came out to a bombardment of booing from the crowd, which soon turned to cheers when Bell walked out alongside Morgan to return to the crease.

This was a big talking point, due to the fact that by the letter of the law India had done nothing wrong, but then questioned their sportsmanship and in the end huge respect has to be shown to Dhoni for reversing the decision.

  • man city beat inter milan? NO WAY!

  • dumb fukin poms

  • in fact maybe not -

    Law 23.1 (b) says:

    b) The ball shall be considered to be dead when it is clear to the bowler’s end umpire that the fielding side and both batsmen at the wicket have ceased to regard it as in play.

  • Technically out but correct to recall because it is clear that the fielder thought the ball had hit the boundary rope (clear from the way he threw the ball back) so led Bell to assume the same. On a separate note, I thought you could only withdraw an appeal before the batsman left the field. As an Englishman, I am ashamed of the Sidebottom incident (it is as bad as NZ running out Murali when he went to congratulate Sangakkara.

  • After his role in the Grant Elliott run out, Bell's got a bloody nerve to complain about the fairness of a run-out.

  • @danitanda Get lost....that was Inzamam's stupidity, he had to pay for his lack of knowledge..

  • why is everyone blaming India's batting for their loss against England in England?... Its clearly not the case, India's batsmen as whole failed to score over 300 runs in the past 5 test matches,.. It is clearly batsmen led down, not bowlers.... Even the India's greatest batsman Sachin has not lived up to the expected expectation. Of course he's got all the records in the world because he's played more games than anyone else... His records don't mean anything to the team as a whole. Overrated

  • where was the spirit of the game when india oun izamam at peshawar and england did that in faisalabad how hypocritec is that now both teams talks abou sipirit of the game

  • @syed824 all you paint is a picture of sheer ignorance. mukund and dhoni knew exactly what was happening. as soon as bell walked off they simply ran him out. if u think indians should have ignored the situation and simply gone back to the pavilion to gnaw on some cucumber sandwiches then maybe test cricket is not for you.

  • Never liked indian cricket before the recall .. Dhoni god bless u and ur cricket team:)
