Side note: Sidney's Candy recently broke another record, this time on the turf at 8.5 furlongs in the La Jolla Handicap. For his efforts he received an insulting 102 BSF. Also, it should be pointed out that the highest two Beyer figs for last year (on a synthetic surface) were 111 by Rail Trip and 112 by Zenyatta. I'm amused by people who treat BSF's as an objective measurement of a horse's performance. These figures necessitate subjective interpretation of the track's inherent speed.
Zenyatta's polytrack record still stands as of 8/24/10 (four season record) and the critics claim she doesn't have "high enough Beyers." I think BSF's say more about what Andy Beyer and his sycophants think about a horse (and where it runs) rather than its intrinsic ability. They said she 'lacked the Beyers' to win the 2009 BCC and then she curiously scored a career high rating of 112 after doing what they claimed was impossible.
Zenyatta broke the new track record for 8.5 F in this race. Del Mar keeps two different sets of records; they have one for the new synthetic dirt track put into use in 2007 and one for the old conventional dirt track. It's interesting to note that her record still stands. And, she was cantoring at the end and Mike had her under a hand ride! Zen always eases up when she passes that last horse. What a horse! I've included the records (current to 8/17/10) below.
Don't you just love that call --- she Canters home -- a 5 beat gait slightly slower than a gallop; That's how you flatter a horse finishing as Zenyatta did.

" Zenyatta's got room if she's good enough, but she's got to get to Model", oh goodness Trevor, did she get to Model? That's funny.
