MARIA ROMAN ASSAULTED IN RENO NEVADA AUGUST 22 2010

On August the 22nd while visiting Reno, NV I attended a popular nightclub downtown Reno... Not long after I arrived people began approaching questioning my gender... most of course were men...... with the typical line " my friends says you're a not a woman is that true"? I usually give no reply since it's not their business, I must say it happens to me often...So I ignored it and continued about my business... however it seen like in this case it spread like wildfire...
A few hours later while I was waiting in the line to the woman's restroom... With no warning, and unprovoked I was blindsided by a blow to my left eye by a woman...this followed by others individual punches that seem to be coming for different directions ... I was pulled by my hair and fell to the ground I began to be kicked with the occasionally "you fucking fag" this is the woman's bathroom...
As this brutal attack continued all I can do is cover my face waiting for someone to make it stop... I was caught of guard I could not even defend my self. Finally the women and individuals stopped... It seemed like an eternity... as I picked my self from the floor I realized security guards, had been standing around while I was being beaten.
I was so confused and scared I ran out side so afraid not knowing who and how many people had attached me...My eye was almost closed shut... ones outside I could not contain my tears... as I exited the club the police and other security guards are standing around... I could barely speak just from how emotional I was... I told them I was just beaten in the club and that security did nothing, they witness my attack but dint detain the individuals or come to my assistance...Their blank stares were not a good sign. well it all went down from there...

Officer Michael L. Mahaffey asks what you want me to do. Do you know who hit you? When I told them. I believe it was a group of women they began laughing... one of them said. "as big as you are some woman hit you" after their remarks... I again told Officer Michael L. Mahaffey that security were present when I was attacked and did nothing. I wanted a formal report of my attack... I also told them that I had been called a "fag" multiple times during the attack which constitutes a hate crime in several states... at that moment I had no idea of the laws in Nevada however I wanted something tangible of what had happened to me at that club...he basically refused to make a report...




I was so infuriated by his disregard to what had just happened to me.... In a nutshell we exchanged some words ... not long after that I was told to put my hands behind my back... I was thrown against the police car and hand cuffed... All along his intention was to show me that I knew nothing† and should shut my mouth when told... because he said so... I figure I would at least give him a word or two And I might have thrown a couple of Mother Fuckers and Fuck You'S...

I was overwhelmed with the thought of how unfair life can be, how we fight all our lives to be who we are. How we are spit, on, beaten by a mob, treated like second class citizens yet expected to walk away with a smile on our face while replying "WELL YES SIR"...

"I continue to take the oath to my self that I will do anything and everything in my power to expose and speak about the bigotry, hate and perpetuate apathy to hate crimes associated with gender, sexual orientation and all whom don't fit within the so called norm
keep me in your prayers...I filled a report once released regarding my assault currently in the detectives division...
The police department would benefit from knowing how large the community is, let them know that to be further victimize after an assault is unacceptable,

Like you I am transgendered. Even if I we're not I would find this deplorable, disgusting, and completely unacceptable! Also having a little bit of a temper I would like to have about 15 minutes with those idiots!!

It isn't just transgenders that they act this way to in Reno hun. I am a nice midwestern girl who has been assaulted and do not feel safe here after reporting it to the judicial system. These people had even broken into my home! They are corrupt and now I carry my own protection. As soon as I am financially able I am out of this insane place that I call hell on earth. So sorry that no one stepped in to stop this. We learn to be better people where I come from. Hope you are ok. xo

I too was a victim of hate crime.. and I totally disagree with monica.. regardless of what someone says or does.. no one deserves to recieve hate crime!! you cant compare to what happened in a "freaking" transexual night club to a hate crime.. queens will be queens and things happen between queens in tranny bathrooms.. ive beaten up queens in the bathroom for fucking with me!! some queens need to be slap!llove ya

I am very sorry Maria for what happened to you, but honestly " what comes around goes around" I remember you from club 7969 in LA, a transsexual Night club, on a friday Night and u were in the womens restrooms with other T girls, I went in U were shady and looked at me and trhu that drink u had on your hands on me, It's funny you can't recall that incident huh? but i still do. No hard feelings but now see what happened to you? it happened in a batroom, You have a horrible attitude. hope ur ok

How could they touch your face?? Why? You are so beautiful, inside and out, and if only the world knew how beautiful we are! That even after all we go through, we still retain the ability to love.
