This is a video showing how I use SketchUp to rig. Specifically the video shows how the rig works during posing.

This is a hack/cheat that I figured out for rigid body models. You can read more about it on my blog:
Yes. This is not a feature of SketchUp but a hack that I use to pose rigid body models. You can read more about how I make rigs here:

  • are you exploring the use of sketchyphysic 2.0 plugin?

  • I wasn't really interested in the plugin because it didn't serve my purposes. Maybe 2.0 will. I'll have to try it out.

  • Simply fascinating, I burn with envy over your SketchUp skills. Awesome piece of work there mate. Google might want this as a promotional video perhaps? My respect for SketchUp just increased tenfolds. Would you ever consider making a video tutorial?

  • I might do a video tutorial sometime, but I don't have a lot of time right now. I'd much rather finish up the book and get some toys made :)

  • sweet is that the pro edition?

  • Yes, but you can do this in the free version as well. Take a look in the "About This Video" for links that explain the method.

  • I don't get any sound with this video. If its not a tutorial then your just showing off and therefore in my opinion a pompous ass

  • Awesome... no words to describe it...

  • this video just amazing we can see the use of outliner this video is for sketchup expert it's so rare !!!!!!!

if you have complexe model with complex form make them component with simple figure and hide the complex one buy right clik on it in the outliner (windows on tab ) and select hide , move the simple form , then unhide the complex and you she have move too really easy to move trees hight poly models you have see an expert tricks

    thanks to post that monterz3r0

  • wow

  • i tried some of the methods, they work, they are easy, but tedious, i've gone to using sketchyphysics for the same thing. i'm working on a machette design to control things, a little doll, with position sensors, move the doll, the 3d figure moves. should work perfectly since sketchyphysics works with joystick input, i'll just need a few dozen sensors.

  • seems to me that someone is jelaous ;P

  • @ScotsFurian: First... Justin doesn't call this a tutorial -- it's a demo. Second... his blog very clearly states "If you havent heard of SketchUp, then this will make absolutely no sense to you..." Third... he's entitled to "show off" as much as he wants, in my opinion. He's clearly talented.

  • how do you make the detailed one follow the rig?

  • I'm very impressed with all the sketchup work I've seen from you - both on youtube and on your blog. As such I hope you wont think it rude when I ask whether you consider your work in Sketchup to be a purely academic exercise, or whether you see Sketchup as being a genuinely useful tool when compared to more evolved, high-end 3D applications?
