Coverage begins from CBS Radio News as reports come in first in the early hours of June 6th, 1944 from Berlin radio on the invasion, then the confirmation hours later from Supreme Allied Command in the UK.
@altfactor You are right if this happened today there would be 24 hour coverage. You forgot one thing, you would have the left protesting the war and cheering on Hitler, well maybe not, since they would be cheering for Stalin.
This is absolutely awesome, I didn't even know that this existed. I am a World War II reenactor and I can't wait to tell people in my organization about this. I am sure that nobody has ever heard this. Thank you for posting.
Which news segment featured Douglas Edwards and Edward R. Murrow?

At 4:46 of this clip, we hear a segment of a big-band remote from Los Angeles, obviously to fill time.
Today for a story this huge, the networks would have analysis until further details came in, and not go back to regular programming.

A great piece of historic sound.
It's my understanding that the major radio networks pre-empted regular programming for about 24 hours to cover the invasion.
And be sure to hear George Hicks' (ABC News, pooled and aired by all the networks) eyewitness account, which you can also find on You Tube.

In early 1942, year-round Daylight Savings Time was begun, and lasted until shortly after the end of WW2. It was officially referred to as War Time.
