Multiple sclerosis is more prevalent in the Pacific Northwest than almost anywhere else on earth.

During MS Awareness Week March 8-14, the Greater Northwest Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society encouraged area residents to join the movement to bring about a world free of MS by taking simple actions throughout the week.

"Whether you have MS yourself, know someone with MS or are simply committed to building a better community for us all, you can make a difference in the lives of the more than 10,000 people who live with MS in Western and Central Washington and Alaska," says Kristen Sanger, director of client and community services at the Greater Northwest Chapter. "There are many fun and easy activities throughout MS Awareness Week that will make you feel good while doing good."

Among the local activities held during MS Awareness Week:
• "Try on MS" at Pacific Place, 6th Avenue and Pine Street in downtown Seattle. Volunteers living with MS asked shoppers to walk in their shoes by demonstrating the different symptoms of the disease with everyday props to double vision, challenge walking ability and more.
