My disclaimer: this is an experiment! My first upload. I used a digital camera in movie-mode, so the quality isn't the best, but I wanted to try it. So, apologies for the quality. I hope to get a REAL vid camera soon, so I can occasionally post Pan Am train vids.

I caught the train 11-09-09, at approx. 1:30 in the afternoon. The train has just left Rigby Yard in S. Portland, ME. It's heading south (or west), but I don't know the train nomenclature. The lead unit is HLCX SD-40-2 6318, along with Springfield Terminal SD-26 621. Downeaster trains 684 and 683 had just passed this location in the previous half-hour.

Railfanning here in Maine is spotty at best. Pan Am locomotives are almost always parked in front of the yard office at Rigby, but No Tresspassing signs are prominently posted at the yard entrance, so unless you choose to tresspass (I don't), or get permission, it's very difficult to get pics or vids at the yard. Waterville yard is better, but again, I wouldn't tresspass on RR property.

I hope to post more in the near future.

  • That looks like Highland Rd in Scarborough, not Rigby Yard

  • @jmcdoughgmail You're correct! It's just a couple of miles south of Rigby, but at the time I recorded this, I didn't know I'd crossed over into Scarboro.

  • man i hope the 621 last long enough to be put in pan am paint that would be cool.

  • It looks like the Pan Am paint for loco's has undergone a revision or two since I first saw it up here in Waterville.

I'll try to get out more often to Waterville and Portland, and get more vids of Pan Am.

  • Good work Bagwan! Perhaps we can meet up sometime and shoot trains!

  • Thanks!

  • Cook's crossing, a great place to film PanAm!!! A favorite spot to meet other fans!!!

  • @bagwan It just happens to be around the corner, and a favorite spot for my son and I to watch.

  • Nice video. I think your digital camera takes high quality videos too. All of my videos here on YouTube are with my digital camera. Check out my train videos :)

  • Awesome lash up in the intro of the SD40-2 and SD26, rare i bet! :)

  • Great video Mike. 5***** Keep em coming. I used a digital camera in video mode for two years until i bought a camcorder back in May..

  • Cool. Hey look! It's 621! Awesome catch.

  • Yeah they have a couple gp40-2ws, a high hood gp40 and some lose nose gp40s in phase 2 paint which I think looks better then the phase 1.
