Why can't game companies do this? I mean, if a game had simplistic graphics/characters and fun gameplay, I would play the shit out of this game. But nope, most game companies go for graphics nowadays.

Probably because of how simplistic the characters look. But yeah, I heard a while back that these characters are spin-offs of some 2chan creations.
