Just so you know, Tao is not actually pronounced with a 'T' sound, but with a 'D' sound. More like Dao. Or to be more phonetic, pronounced like 'dow'. It is unfortunate that those who first wrote of it in our language chose the wrong letter, but there you have it. Obviously, it's not a big deal, but I thought you might want to know how to pronounce the name of the religion you profess to be a member of. Oh, and one other thing, a person can be atheist AND in awe of nature (aka "spiritual").

Ok, well that's your prerogative. But you do also realize that it -does- make you sound ignorant of the subject you're speaking about, right? I'm not saying you ARE ignorant of it, but when choosing to say it with a common mispronunciation, you're not as likely to be taken seriously.

Yeah, it's a bit of a nitpick, but I thought it worth pointing out.

Yhea your mother probably babtise you simply because you would have lost many right in USA just because of that. The Atheist (or who ever doesnt belive in the current teaching of religions) is the most untrusted minority (16%) in the US.

@Veovisce if you are trying to warn her & help her from getting people all on her case later, then good for you! but instead of saying "do you realize....makes you sound ignorant" doesn't really sound so nice. i think it should have been somthing more along the lines of "its pronounced this way, not this way! just helping a friend out! dont want you to get hurt for it later!:)" just saying, dont want you to get hurt later either.

Some pronunciations vary from region to region but still maintain their meaning. Some are just plain wrong, though. If language were so completely relative it would be useless. Let's say I choose to pronounce "dog" as uh... "wog." The issue isn't that I don't have a right to do so, (which I certainly do) but that I can't expect others to A) know what I'm talking about, or B) take me seriously if I claim to be a follower of the teachings of dogs. Then again, language evolves. *shrug* up to you.
