Organic food and conventional produce comparison report from Food Standard Agency 2009: No nutrient content differences of relevance to health found so far. No difference in food safety standards. Lower pesticide residues in organic, however those in conventional produce are already low as they are required to be within legal limits and monitored. No differences in health found in studies from 1958-2009.
Organic food benefits: focus on environment and sustainability, soil care, high animal welfare standards, no genetic modification, rules on pesticides and additive use, governed by EU law and inspected.
On balance, if cost is an issue: I'd rather you had quality cuts of lean meat and fish with lots of fruit and veg of any kind rather than one organic apple
