In the tradition of Desert Solitaire and Shop Class as Soulcraft, a remarkable debut from a major new voice in American nonfiction—a meditation on nature and life, witnessed from the heights of one of the last fire lookout towers in America
"What a wonderful book. Philip Connors went up to the mountaintop to serve as a lookout—and he has come down with a masterwork of close observation, deep reflection, and hard-won wisdom. This is an unforgettable reckoning with the American land."—Philip Gourevitch
a wonderful first literary work;an existential examination of what it means to be part of the global ecology, how we must radically rethink historical ethos of nature domination . I suspect that Connors will take ultimately take his place with Stegner, Sagan, and others who have shown us insights into our place in the universe as Earth riding beings. I am eager for the next work(s).. And thank you for the video! My imagination was remarkably accurate thanks to your magnificent writing.

love the last lines; reminds me of the great moment in Blade Runner ("I've seen things you people wouldn't believe..."), then has a satisfying climax; looking forward to the book
