As the title suggests, this is a video dedicated to the USS Indianapolis. If you don't know the story, the video will explain. I contacted the chairman of the survivors' organization and this video was played at the Survivors' Reunion in Indianapolis last July. Music is from the Medal of Honor Frontline soundtrack, and composed by Michael Giacchino. Please leave comments! Thanks.

  • I read the Left For Dead book as my school read and I needed help cause my teacher says we need a song that relates to the misfortune of the ship. Can someone help?

  • The one I used in my video is from the Medal of Honor Frontline soundtrack, composed by Michael Giacchino. It's a great instrumental but no lyrics. If you need one with lyrics, I don't really know of any songs right off hand. If I think of one I'll post it here

  • RIP to Harold. Obviously a good man and a patriot.

  • was there somebody you knew in the video?

  • This is a great tribute. One day, my father handed me "In Harms Way" and said, "You need to read this, it's important." He was right. Nice job

  • Yeah that was one of the first books I read about the indy and the one that inspired me to make the video. Thanks for the comment

  • mcvay was a scape goat for others. the navy knew about a enemy sub operating in the indy's path but didn't tell mcvay, all us warshps not equipped with anti-submarine equipment always had a destroyer escort. But the indy did not even though she wasn't equipped with anti sub equipment, and captain mcvay asked for a destroyer escort in the first place. The jap sub commander said, even if he had zigzaged, he would of hit the indy anyway. WTF Navy

  • This story needs to be told to all the teens of today that have become spoiled brats and resist all authority in this land....I was moved by reading this and learning about this....freedom is not free...and what they did to Mcvay was nothing short of disgusting...he served and was a hero in my book, he asked for an escort and the Navy did not give him one...so they blamed him to save their own faces...sad....this story is not given the credit it is due for saving USA from Japan.

  • Thanks for this tribute. Heroes, the lot of them.

  • @capt777737 My Dad, PHC Mate2, went down with the Indy. I was 6 at the time. Although I can't remember seeing him because he was gone so long, but my Mom had saved all the letters he wrote home, retyped them and had them bound for my sister and me. I am so proud of him.

  • only about 2 dozen deaths were atrributed to shark attacks majority were dehydration exsposure and wounds suffered during sinking, it is said the living had to stay away from the dead and bleeding because thats what the sharks were mainly feeding on

  • My late Daddy was a young soldier in this War..in Philipines at the time of this tragedy..He was in communications..I won't go into details about the many screwups..as all thru my growing up yrs. He would and could not talk about this war..He lost many close buddys and it paid a toll plus the war itself..He got yellow fever back then and thruout his life he have flareups. But when he was in his mid to upper 70's..He opened up and shared all of his experiences of those days...

  • The real ass-holes responsible for letting those poor men die a slow death , where never charged or fired. Many heads shoulda rolled for that fuck up! Poor Capt got the shaft.... even the jap sub Capt said that.

  • My great-grandpa Leonard Franklin Gore was on the Indianapolis. He died when my grandma was 2 years old.For years my great-grandma would hold a picture of him in the family photos. She never believed he had died.

  • My Cousin went down with the ship. he was in the boiler room.

Another equally sad disaster put to song by The Kingston Trio is "the Sinking of the Reuben James"

Check it out it is on Utube.

I'm trying to get this one put to song as well.

And if we can, it will be done where everybody likes it.
