I'm reviewing Timothy Keller's "The Reason for God" chapter by chapter. Chapter 1 is all about how there CAN, in fact, be one religion which is truer than all others, and that is, of course, Christianity.
lol, dude, i felt just like your wife....reading this book was a headache, but i did it as a favor to my believer cousin who purchased it for me. (ironically, she hasn't read it, smh) but yeah, keller would benefit from some 101 logic course because all his arguements in the book are pretty much the same. this book was a sad dissapointment from me, because i was hoping for some rational apologetics and not his lame brand of circular reasoning and opining
You've made his arguments for Christianity too complicated, and by doing so, missed the point completely. You actually surmise by stating the exact opposite of what he is trying to say.
Also, I stopped listening when you went to Bush. Honestly? There are thousands of leaders who've done a poor job and have done awful things in the name of a million different things. Power grabs happen all the time. Condemn the leader, not their means.
Read anything you can get your hands on from William Lane Craig and maybe even some Francis Collins. Also remember that the same science you have elevated to be superior to metaphysical (supernatural) claims would not be where it is today without Christianity. I am sure you know that so I am not trying to press the point. Oh and presuppositions are everything! You them, and they have them (whoever they may be..). lol Keep enjoying the journey bro! I know I am. You have Facebook?
Atheism is interesting. I would suggest reading "Why I Trust The Bible" by John MacArthur Jr. (Easy read) and more importantly "Evidence That Demands A Verdict" by Josh MacDowell. Unless your heart "truly" desires the truth, your not going to find it, because God will most likely keep you blinded from it. Start from the beginning. Do you really think we are all just here by CHANCE? Science has not be able to disprove an intelligent creator, all it has done is let us know there "MUST" be one
Hello Pavoreax, with respect to the second argument in the "Christianity can save the world" chapter I sincerely think you've missed his point. He's not saying "accepting Jesus" and living like the devil is consistent with true Christianity. He's saying that Christians don't think they go to heaven on account of their own righteousness, rather, on account of another's. Namely, Christ's righteousness. Therefore true Christians aren't saying we go to heaven because we're better people than you.
cont... That Christianity isn't claiming moral superiority on account of ourselves, we're saying we deserve condemnation just like you but have found a mediator who bore the wrath of God the Father for us and gives us Christ's righteousness. In affect saving us.

Thank you for this series. I've had a hard time finding any reviews of this book from an atheist viewpoint.

A literate YokeUp? I'm sorry, but I guess that I lack imagination because I simply can't fathom that idea.
