I often visit Ravenglass in the English Lake District, but in May 2009 I found a seaplane being assembled off a trailor on the back of a car, which then took off from the beach at Ravenglass. I video'ed it, and put this clip together, as it reminded me a little of the assembly of the gyrocopter in You Only Live Twice. So I thought the soundtrack I added was appropriate and of course a little tongue-in-cheek. This is my first video posted to YouTube, so be gentle with me :)

  • Wish we could have been there. We are couple of old fogies, who love coming to Ravenglass on our motorbike. A beautiful part of the world

  • @Xwaterbabe It seems they're regular visitors to Ravenglass - and in fact they were there again when I was last there again this Summer: twitpic dot com/67zvwn

  • I've been coming up to Ravenglass to visit my father-in-law (Ken Sowerby) for the last 7 years and never seen it before - never seen the plane before - seeing it made my day it did :) There are seaplane conventions? Never knew that! Glad you liked the video - hope your dad doesn't mind.

  • kit plane? who is the manufacturer / what make / model engine? looks like a Lake Bucanneer, yet smaller

  • @marloncole Thanks for info. Not been been able to get to Ravenglass this summer, hubby had accident on his bicycle, still got broken leg

  • And apart from all the comments, this guy built the plane himself after building a first class catermaran. He's cumbrian of course!!!!!

  • I remember this day i remember sitting on the wall outside haywood house and seeing this take off

  • he doesnt mind atall. He loved it. The plane has only just been built, that could be the reason :) Its a home build plane and my dad built it from plans. My dad had to go across to america to get a extension on his english pilots licence which would allow him to fly seaplanes so we haven't been flying it from Ravenglass that long. Im glad it made your day :D

  • Thats my plane hahaha! Im the guys son :D we live in Braystones, just up the coast from Ravenglass. Thats the day my dad and his uncle went to nothern ireland to a seaplane convention. Nice video :D
