Testing new JJ tubes, Weber Beam Blocker, and Eminence Governor speaker in my Rivera R55 amp. I had Groove tube preamp tubes and Winged C Svetlana tubes in it from 2004, and just changed them. Also replaced the stock 3 spring reverb tank to a longer 6 spring unit.

Thanks Paul Rivera Jr and Rich for the help!

The speaker is not yet broken in. I played the amp on all the same settings for all the guitars:
Channel one G-6 B-7 M-7 T-7 M-2
Channel two: G-5 T-8 M-5 B-6 M-4 with treb and mids pots pulled (bright & notch)
Reverb @ 4
Presence @ 5

Most people ask about pickups
les paul: stock (jimmy page push/pull pots for coil tapping and phase)
strat: GFS alnico II's
bumstead sg: stock

  • Can you tell something more avout strat ?

  • @carmotogitaro

The strat was a Saga Strat kit with a Torres Engineering replacement neck. The pickups in it are Guitar Fetish GFS Alnico II single coil pickups. The strings on it are Ernie Ball .11's

  • Did the Weber Beam Blocker change how you have to mic your amp? Did it have any noticeable effect?

I'm considering installing some beam-blockers on my amp because it seems they would make it better with jamming with friends as well as hearing myself on stage, but I also do lots of recording and I'm concerned about the way it might affect the sounds I get when close-mic'ing.

Gorgeous tones, btw. Warm and clear. :)

  • they are pretty easy to remove for recording. My RIvera was a front loading amp with velcro around the grill. I did have a mic in this vid, and have recorded with the amp and have had no issues. I recommend them very much.

  • I chose the Governor because everyone reviews it agains the Celestion Vintage 30. I liked it over the V30 because it's Made in USA and there were more people favoring the Governor over the V30 in side by side comparisons. There were a ton of speakers from Eminence, and I listened to all the sound samples, and still ended up getting the Gov'r.

  • @FenrirLupus I have an Eminence Patriot Series Swamp Thang that is currently in the amp.

  • Why did you especially chose the Governor speaker among the so huge choice Eminence offers ? Do you know the difference with the Tonker and the Wizard please ? Thank you.

  • Thats a great amp Nic, after hearing it in the studio, I really want one!

  • Sounds great man!
