automatic transmissions generally have a torque converter. Double clutch systems like new VW Jetta TDi's and 2.0 T's are classified as automatic but really theyre manual transmissions with a computer doing the clutch work for you.
And from the comments below dont tell me auto is faster than manual for the Maxima just because "the car knows when to shift". the 6 speed totally annihilates the autos

My 6MT '02 Maxima would have raped my 4AT '02 Maxima. Really obvious difference first time I drove the 6 speed Maxima.
