Dj Vivo interviews people at the samba de roda on their views and attitudes towards samba as part of the Samba beyond carnival documentary. This interview was conducted in my dodgy portugues so I have put a translation below....

DJ Vivo: Im here doing this documentary with Brazilian Beatz, Im here with my friend, remind me of your name?
Aluizio: Aluizio
DJ Vivo: We are here in club guanabarra, Wednesday -- Do you come here a lot?
Aluizio: Yes
DJ Vivo: You Like it here?
Aluizio: Yes I come to this place every fortnight. I really enjoy coming here where there is a rodda de samba (samba party) in the Zona Sur (known as the richer side of Rio) which is not really well known for having these kind of parties, but yet there is a good quality samba with a great repertory and artists where sometimes there is attractions that we don't know about. We only find out when we arrive or on the day and so it's a great surprise.
DJ vivo: So what makes a good rodda de samba for you? What does it have to have?
Aluizio: the principle elements are a good space with good acoustics, a good price that's relatively affordable for people to buy drinks and our charm and happiness of the carioca (someone from Rio de Janeiro) that is something special in this world.
DJ Vivo: We were talking about about the mix of people, that we were saying that the good music for us always comes from cultures with a lot of mixture of people, here it seems to me that here in this party there is real mix of all different types of people, in England this can be hard to find (so much variety) here there are people from all over.
Aluizo: Talking about samba, well it brings together lots of people, black, white, mixed everyone is a mix, in our country brasil 90% of our people are mixed race. Many people really like samba, samba that came from the slaves, the period of the slaves has been evolving evey year and today is has arrived in Zona Sur and is getting more popular every day its impresive the acceptance that samba is getting here in Zona Sur.
DJ Vivo:Do you have a favourite artist
Aluizio: hmm favourite of samba.....
DJ Vivo: If you had a birthday and you could invite two artists who would you invite?
For sure the first would be Zeca pagodinho who is so extremely well known, his is a person of the people and passed all the difficulties that whatever poor person has to face and today its all good
DJ Vivo: Do you have any favourite lyrics of Samba?
Aluizio: Samba lyrics exatly no, right now its difficult to remember
DJ Vivo: Thank You
