Re-wired our server rack with new Cat6A cabling and added a couple Zero-U PDU's (Power Distribution Units). Thanks to our redundant systems design, I was able to relocate all of the cabling without having to power down or interrupt any services. Unfortunately, part of the video was lost of the initial rack teardown.

Rack features a 16TB Dell PS5000E SAN, 16TB Backup iSCSI SAN, Apple xServe, Whitebox Trixbox CE PBX, 4x Dell R710's, 2x Dell 1950's, 2x Dell R300's. 2x Redundant D-Link DXS-3227's with CX4 infiniband stacking. Cluster operating on ESX 4.0 with vSphere Enterprise Plus.

UPS Power providd by redundant Liebert 3000VA + 5 ext batteries each. Approx 250 min of battery runtime during (frequent) power outages.

Total cluster capacity of 256GB RAM, 8x Xeon 56xx, 4x Xeon 52xx, 2x Xeon 55xx.

  • 1:03... NO OPEN BEVERAGES IN SERVER ROOMS

  • @DeathsOverture good thing the AC condensor was in the room to leak all over the floor too then... :(

  • whats the white switch on the wall with the blue cables in it? :S

  • @basmagic It is a 4-port Balun box, connecting the server rack to the primary networking closet via 4x1GB Cat6 runs aggregated into 2 LACP trunks (2x2GB bandwidth and VLAN trunks)

  • Really nice cabling job! Those Liebert's really give your rack 250 mins of runtime? Impressive!

  • @xxkinetikxx Yeah, we can gain another 100 minutes by shutting down the xServe. It is not very efficient.

  • i like how he stands there for a few seconds thinking "Fuck where do i start here" lol

  • @basmagic Its a white switch on the wall ! LoL

  • This is what I seriously have to do to mine. Looks a lot better after the rewire. These companies want everything done so quick and no downtime, that it gets challenging. I have a full Dell server rack full of Dell servers and tripplite ups
