Analogy:I have vision loss; I'm nearsighted. I can see without my glasses but I don't see details like street signs or distance so it is illegal for me to drive. So, I can see, but I miss info. At night I see more things with my glasses but my glasses don't help my peripheral vision loss or night vision so things are still blurry and scattered. Same thing with hearing aids -- more things can be heard depending on type of loss but it is not a 'correction' of loss. The loss is still there and with the hearing aid not everything is heard like typical hearing. Also deaf and Deaf are two different concepts; the first means hearing loss where conversation sound is distorted and the latter means someone who knows ASL and interacts with others who know ASL and associate with the Deaf Community (hearing and those with hearing loss) This video...Age 5 -- this video is after the first sounds tested (missed recording that ;( -- but here audiologist is explaining how to put this on ear and how it works with fm system he has for group settings. He has moderate hearing loss which has been progressive.
