Bombastic version of the Civil War sea shanty by the inimitable Swan Arcade of West Yorkshire, from their first album (1972). Come now, admit it: you've never heard a better version!

  • sir i have not! we sang this in the sealed knot (i know, different civil war!). ive heard 400+ blokes belting this out in a beer tent and finding this brought those memorys flooding back.

i thank you for that, and putting this up! cheers

  • Many thanks for uploading this. Is the black and white photo of the bearded chap Dave Brady? (Heard their songs but never saw them in concert).

  • Yes this.. thus is a fantastic song about an arcane piece of The American Civil War the war on the oceans waged by the Confederate commerce raider ship Alabama. and in my opinion one of the best ACW songs & that is from a strong pack. The tale of British involvement building her is another arcane part of the well told ACW. sung by experts they catch the raucous joy of singing a sea shanty.. thanks for creating this vid…

  • Dave Brady is channeling Bellamy :)
