There was a time, that Europe had one paneuropean music channel. It was a great time, on which the European Dance music scene, manage to became the dominator of the west world!
The peek year of that era, was between the summer of 1994 and the summer of 1995.
In the next couple of years, the appearance of local music channels on UK/Ire, Germany, Italy and later Nederlands and Greece follow. Their existence lead to the end of the Dance Paneurean music era, an end that Viacom also had it's share, because of the local versions of the well known - then - music channels that created on Germany, UK/Ire and Italy.
Because of the satellite reception, music fans of dance music manage - for a short while - to continue with the european dance music scene a little bit more. But then, Viacom came and took control of TMF (NL / Belgium) and Viva (German/Austria/Swiss/Poland/etc). The first thing it did, was to kill the presence of the european dance music scene on their programs and replace it with USA inspired reality shows, non european dance music and USA exports of any kind (fashion / trends / humor). Today, only few care about the music, especially in it's dance european form. The new generations or Europeans, don't care at all about our European dance tradition, which started around 1974 and lasted up to 2003. Pitty, isn't it. I guess musically, we are all americans right now.

But, all those things are (music) History. Let's all enjoy a moment of European Dance Music Glory! It is the New Years Eve of 1995! We are watching the last year of the united Paneuropean Music Channel and VJ Simone Angel, a symbol of the European Dance Music, wishing us Happy New Year!

1995 was a nice year indeed.

  • @SatStorm I'm from Poland and I absolutely agree with you. Mid 90's was the time when USA imported our music and european bands where at the top of every american chart and now we watch and listen to everything that comes from USA. There is very few european artists who succeeded in USA and Viacom is responsible for that. I used to adore MTV and now I cannot look at all that shit. I miss old MTV and good european dance music.

  • @hydebrown So many people yearning to go to the 90's...

I totally understand why, but unfortunately time machines aren't reality, yet?

So, we have to suffer all the Bullshit music and TV, that seems to be popular these days...I hate it.

  • @hydebrown sad but true. Empathy from Italy.
