The Leveraged Freedom Chair is a wheelchair-based mobility aid designed for use in developing countries. It is capable of navigating nearly any type of terrain and is made entirely of locally-available bicycle parts and materials. The LFC shown in this video is a proof-of-concept prototype and is not a product ready for distribution and sale.
The LFC is being developed through the MIT Mobility Lab (mlab.mit.edu)
I've always thought that levers could be better utilized. I like how the user can vary the amount of force and speed by grabbing high or low on the lever.
BTW: I'm skeptical when I don't see an obviously disabled person demonstrating the equipment.
