This is probably my favourite song sung by Tommy Makem. What an incomparable voice, what amazing lyrics. This brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it. Very appropriate to listen to it today of all days, when I just learned that Liam Clancy died. RIP Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. You are the best!

@stinkbegaaier There's also a version that Tommy Makem does by himself, it's on the record "Songs of Tommy Makem".

Lovely voice. Just gorgeous rendition. What I adore about the old Irish folk tunes is that men and women freely sing them whether they're written in the female or male voice. The power of song.
-
@RileyUSMC05 It was also recorded by Buell Kazee in the '20s with the same title.

Love the old grate Irish music.

Beautiful..
What is the american version? They all speak together and God love the accent but it covers up what they say...
