Here's a clip with 3 experimental video effects as performed using ADO (Ampex Digital Optics).
The first effect was a spec animation created for USA Network's sports promotion. A moving striped background acts as the 'ground' as a parade of video pictures cross through the revolving view of the entire scene. Each video panel not only has moving video but it also has a shadow cast on the 'ground' as well as each video remains upright to the viewer's eye (sort of). Created in Oct. 1984.
Second on the video is a test intended to see if I could create a pyramid with moving video on each of the triangular sides while the whole pyramid rotates. You can even see inside the bottom of the hollow pyramid as it rotates. Created in July, 1984.,
The last effect was actually the first one created and was the most difficult to make. It consists of 12 pentagrams fitted together to make a dodecahedron (a 12-sided solid object). All the sides animate and you can see between the pentagrams into the inside when they are separated. Created in June, 1984.
All of these effects were very difficult to create at the time because the available equipment was not yet developed to the level that would make this work easy to do. There were many obstacles to overcome in making these animations at the time that would today be very easy to accomplish.

  • Groundbreaking work at the time!

Nobody today realizes how HARD it was to do even the simplest things back in those days!

Great addition to the history of electronic animation!
