Sixteen Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies are on patrol in Pittsburgh today and Friday, as part of a massive law enforcement contingent at the G-20 summit of world leaders.

The deputies, members of the sheriff's Emergency Field Force, were sworn in for service in the western Pennsylvania city, said Sheriff's Lt. Bill Bruckner.

About 4,000 officers from more than 40 jurisdictions around the nation are on duty during the summit, according to The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Palm Beach County's deputies are working alongside agents from Baltimore, Cleveland, Philadelphia and other places.

Pittsburgh received $10 million in federal funds to cover the cost of the added security, while the city declared a state of emergency to allow for deputizing the guest officers, the newspaper reported.

Bruckner said the deputies, who are trained to handle civil disturbances and protests, have been assisting the Pennsylvania State Police and Pittsburgh Police. They are due to return to Palm Beach County on Monday.
