What is screen printing? - Screen Taping and white print attempt

This video shows why you need to tape up your screen before printing. It also shows my first attempt and printing white ink. Which is harder than it looks. Screen printing white ink is tough because it's so thick and it's harder to get it to be solid white on the first pass. I will keep at it though. About taping, let me know if there is a way (chemical) to remove the adhesive residue that stays on the screen without damaging the image(emulsion).

Someone told me tu use laquer thinner but that would probably reclaim my entire screen.

@x3mhook Hmm....not sure let me find out. I think if you're using the right tape it won't leave a residue. What kind of tape do you use?

Description: Medium-high adhesion. 3-day removal. Do not use on wallpaper, wallboard or wood floors.

Looking at it is just a pale yellow paper like masking tape.

@x3mhook Oh yeah that might be a problem. You should check the website I get my supplies from you can get screen printing specific tape and it doesn't leave residue.

i so did this in high school we did the emulsion a different way though it was orange & we had to cut our design into it & go through a whole process of making it stick to the screen. (:

In regards to the taping of the screen, just get the paper rolls with the water based adhesive. After you take the tape off, the glue rinses off with water without destroying the emulsion. I have been in the screen printing business for 28 years, so I know these things. Or once your screen has been exposed, just use more emulsion around the edges applied with a say 50 pt card, let it dry and no need for tape at all. Way cheaper.
