  • I found this exact amp for $100. I play metal and hard rock. i'm not too picky about tone and things like that but this seems like a nice little amp. would you say it's ok for metal or heavy distortion?

  • it has a lot of gain but i feel you're going to have to use a distortion pedal with it if you want it to go to heavy metal territory.

  • @bobbyalvarez well I bought the amp and I am really happy with it. I already have a boss metal zone pedal so I have the distortion I want however the amp all around has a nice tone and lots of knobs to tweak it with. I give it a 9 out of 10

  • congrats on the amp. a metal zone should get you there. have fun with it. cheers! :-)

  • Im looking at ordering this from carvin direct, the thing sounds great and at 100w if I remember right from the add, I cant ask for more head room. I just need a decent live amp. can it cut through a larger band okay?

  • it's ok but it doesn't cut as well as a fender.

  • @guitarsncarz totally agree...I have the sx 300 as well...I'm more a blues rock player so I'm very happy with my amp

  • Sounds great! Got some chops there!

Would you recommend this amp for playing Blues influenced Rock, Blues, Jazz, Shred (like Vai, Paul Gilbert etc) and hard rock?

  • well I want solid state because I dont trust tubes for stage use. and most solid state fenders Ive played sounded rather harsh, and the solid state carvins always had more body to me, I agree if you meant a tube fender...but still I dont trust tubes

  • I just got a Carvin sx 300 and the gain and distortion were sub-par to say the least, the cleans were very good though, through a boss metal zone and it came to life, all the gain i needed and more, but still. I got it used for a good deal, so i might consider buying an amp more suited to my playing style, such as a peavey valveking or something of that nature. A great amp for blues and rock, but not metal if you don't have a pedal.
