it doesn't matter if it's left the penalty area, the law explicitly states that a goal can only be scored against the other team directly from a goal kick

@slimreaper38 If the ball never left the penalty area, the goal kick should have been retaken. Otherwise the restart should have been a corner kick.

A goal kick is not an indirect free kick. You can score a goal against the other team on a goal kick! If you can reach that far.

It is not a goal because it never left the penalty area. Until the ball leaves the penalty area it is not in play.

This is a corner kick restart.
