With Lions "Leaving Me" video

Christian Celaya (Benzos) and Woody Ranere (Lake Trout) make up the group known as WITH LIONS and November 1st, 2011 marked the kick-off of an ambitious four-EPs-a-year cycle with the release of, "Touch the Sound." Epic and cinematic, With Lions' EPs are broken into mini scores. Dark, saturated harmony, their music can only be described in film terms. "We try to score life," says Celaya.

Director Raffi Asdourian says, "When I first sat down with Woody and Christian to discuss their vision for With Lions, I instantly felt a kindred creative spirit when discussing visual concepts and ideas to accompany their sonic soundscapes. For "Leaving Me" I decided to take abstract forms of nature and art and meld them into a hypnotic tapestry of shape and color. The ultimate goal was to enhance the already cinematic nature of the song with visuals that allows viewers to lose themselves in the music."

Woody Ranere continues, "We've made a career by setting our music to other peoples' visions on TV and in film and we wanted to elevate that to the next level with our original music videos and live performances. We partnered up with our good friend/director, Raffi Asdourian, to help see that to fruition. 'Leaving Me' is just the visual introduction to With Lions, just as 'Touch The Sound' was in the aural realm. With each release, we'll continue to evolve both sonically and visually. Not only is Raffi directing our various videos, but he'll also be assembling the footage to be projected behind us at our live performances."

The New Yorker calls "Touch The Sound," "slow-cooked shoegaze," Metromix says "multi-layered," The Owl Mag sees the music, "influenced by '60s pop and '80s synth-rock" and Time Out NY dubs it, "moody, post-Radiohead art pop." But Secret Sound Shop sums it up best when saying, "With Lions are one of those bands whose music you hear and find instantly likeable."

Experimental. Electronic. Classical. Jazz. Post-punk. Genres are ubiquitous in music. Artists are defined by a literal sound or musical genus. Some may deem this labeling as legitimization. For With Lions, it's regulation. No walls or limitations, the East Coast duo is never at the mercy of a particular sound. Changing their genre as they go along, With Lions have amassed an entire library of music to release four, distinct EPs a year.

The next EP is "Equipo" (eh-KEE-po) - Spanish for 'team' and will be released in Spring 2012.
