Ray attempts to restore a rotary steam engine prototype he worked on in the 1960's and 70's with his father Charles. My dad developed this design when he was a young man in his 20's in the 1920's.
This should be a good video editing project and fun thing to do with a really unique design for a motor.
Simple and elegant and extremely powerful, Just the thing when fuel economy and new technology will pave the way to a better tomorrow. Ray's dad was a rather inventive sort of fellow!
Sorry about the TV in the background. I guess it's free music.

  • pause it at 3:06 and then think about it, the steam is pushing against both rotors at the same pressure and there geared together and there trying to go in diferent directions. the engine stops, or at least gradually looses momentem untill it stops.

  • ops sorry thought about it again and both rotors would want to go in the same direction, but you kinda get what im saying. supper cool and awsome but i think that the engine will "stale mate" ... fight itself. this is not a hate coment, just a fellow gear head pointing out a problem.

  • I have been working on part 3 of this for some time now. I'm almost done and ready to post, but fear of failure, is holding me back a bit. LOL- The problem is going to be no compression due to lack of any type of proper seals. I'm not really mechanically inclined so, I'm going to pack it with sawdust, oil and STP leak stopper. Who knows????

  • Thanks for you imput and ideas.

You have some good observations there.

In part 2 you can see the block they spin in. There is less opposition in favor of the direction we want it to go.

  • Coool! I hope we get to see it in action.

  • Thanks for dropping in Blake. Part 3 is almost done. I just can't seem to get with the program and finish it. I'm not sure how to address the issue, if it doesn't turn on its own...... Hmmmm Your encouragement may be what the doctor ordered... :-)

  • im not player hattin, just trying to help out,

  • sorry one more coment, also at 3:06 steam is pushing down the rotor on the right in both directions, the rotor on the right wants to go down, the rotor is stalled out and has the same pressure on both sides. then on the next cycle the other rotor will do the same. one mod could be another intake port opening, and the first closing after the 2 rotors pass each other, just an idea
