A 16-year-old from Maidstone stole the show at the Labour Party conference achieving what many shadow cabinet ministers hoped for and winning a standing ovation from thousands of activists.

In scenes reminiscent of a teenage William Hague addressing the Conservative Party conference in Blackpool in front of Margaret Thatcher in 1977, Rory Weal impressed delegates with an impassioned speech that had Ed Miliband jumping to his feet to shake his hand.

Rory, who lives with his mother Elaine, a single mother and administrator at a cleaning company, and eight-year-old sister Emma, had the week off school to attend the Labour conference in Liverpool.

He is studying four A-Levels - English literature, geography, politics and history having gained seven A*s and four As in his GCSEs.

As he walked off the stage to a standing ovation, delegates came up to shake his hand and give him a pat on the back.

Speaking afterwards, he said: "I think a lot of my friends are quite angry at what this Government is doing with tuition fees. It's important to get more young people involved."

Rory, who only joined the party after the last general election, said he did not know what he wanted to do after school but added he would "quite like to go into politics in the future".

  • @yington Well yeah, of course i have. He never shuts up about politics, but he's still a nice guy.

  • Anyone who votes Labour is happy to see this island overrun with undesirable, unwanted immigrants from all over the world and us reduced to a third world dumping ground with our identity , culture and heritage eroded to shit. VOTE WITH YOUR BRAIN. VOTE UKIP !

  • @GummyBoar

If you've known him for 4 years, have you been a good friend and told the *16* year old to get a fuckin life ? An interest in current affairs and politics is a good thing. To dedicate your life to it, particularly aligning yourself to a particular party, at such a young age, is just plain sad.

To think....he's got to defend the Labour party, before he's had any true experience of life.

  • @bagzie Erm, might want to check your facts mate. Ive known rory for the best part of 4 years and i can tell you he's the least chavvy person you'll ever meet. Sure he's a total hypocrite and cant shut up about politics for one bloody minute, but he's actually a nice guy.

Crawl out of your mums basement and learn some manners.

  • Another soft mind molded by socilist ideas, who thinks he can spend your money money better than you can......GREAT -.-

  • Someone tell this young chav to return that stolen, ill fitting suit to M&S and hurry back home to finish his homework.

  • No way would ever vote the Tories after the growing up with Thatchers lot devestated the North and didnt want the NHS either they just pure evil!!..Would never vote libdem, When Labour got in was so happy but they turned more and more Torie as time went on, but still helped the poor more that the tories with tax credits etc but didnt stop selling council houses which was another torie idea, now left with massive housing shortage..So think Socialism next best thing!!

  • what socialist scumbags!!! won't they pack their bags and get out Britain for good. Voting for Labour is like a slap in a face to our ancestors who built this once great country, and scarafice their lives to defend this great land from enemies like the Commie Labour from taken over!!!

    COMMIES OUT OF OUR COUNTRY!!!!
