You never get the computer on display unless you're buying it privately. Then you can try that trick. Panic stations in Boots. The salesmen didn't know what was wrong with the speccys. Gotta keep the staff on their toes. Phone around and finally decide to switch them off at the mains. If only they knew about the reset button!

I just realised...
What an ideal opportunity for someone who you "have never met before" to come up and try the computer and go "hmm it seems to be defective, tell you what, I'll buy it if you knock a few quid off"
Which of course is highly unethical and I don't condone such behavior :)

man, I remember making up crap programs and typing them in at the computers in boots and whsmith :D
I did one that drew a face and some kid came along and he made a total arse of it, he couldn't even enter a basic line :D
