These 'cab views' of the Weardale Railway from Bishop Auckland to Stanhope were filmed on a snowy Sunday 5th December 2010. Motive power was class 141 'Pacer' unit number 141 113. Following on from part one, having crossed the A68 west of Witton le Wear we continue our westward journey towards Stanhope. Part two of the cab ride follows the line from Witton le Wear as far as Wolsingham Depot. Beyond Witton le Wear we pass over Low Garth crossing, High Garth and High Garth Wood, before passing under a bridge leading to Harperley Hall and over McNeil's farm crossing. The train runs parallel to the river Wear before passing the remaining derelict platform of the former Harperley station. The train then races on towards Wolsingham -past the site of Wolsingham showground, before stopping alongside Wolsingham Depot, otherwise known as the 'Gun Barrel Shed'.

  • Lovely video. My great grandfather was stationmaster at Harperley Station for many years. My great grandmother was born and died at Harperley. It is lovely to see the trains running again past the now deserted station where my g.grandfather would have worked. He retired from Harperley in 1922. We had many happy times playing as children in the old station house and by the river.

  • Hopefully this thing will stay there permanently now..
