We have fully concrete covered rail in german high speed lines. They make no noise. I think it's the diameter and the wheels.

I'm guessing that the squeal may be partly to do with the rails being set on solid concrete and the sound being amplified through the concrete bed where as sleepers on gravel base may allow the sound to dissipate better....? Whatever it is, i'm sure the folks who bought their upmarket newmarket flats aren't enjoying it the noise....!!

Nice video, I thought that was on the top of a steep grade, although they dont seem to be pulling that hard ?

Does the squeal mean that the gauge is slightly too tight? I vaguely recall that some curves have to be "relaxed" slightly prior to steamloco runs and wonder if this curve has been set too tight overall. If it has, is it a problem?
