Philosopher and physicist Paul Davies gives a fascinating and thought-provoking talk on the possibility of an ultimate explanation for our universe. Dismissing the multiverse and God, he outlines an idea for finding an explanation for the universe and physical laws within the universe itself.

  • While I disagree with PCW Davies on some things, I think he is a great guy and I really enjoy his books.

  • In my opinion Davies is a person of rare courage, who is willing to stare the big questions right in the face an never be satisfied with any cop-outs. I wish I could say the same about many other scientists or theologians. In this video he proposes a TESTABLE HYPOTHESIS about the operation of physical laws.

I agree mate. I'm very familiar with most of the world's most prominent belief-systems especially Eastern teachings of the Vedas in Hindu/Krishna, Buddhism, and the Kabbalah, and personally I do believe in not so much a "religious God" but in a Creator/Source. My previous comment was for the benefit of the "I'm right, you're wrong" religious zealots and those who confuse creationism with ID.

  • @Paddyl U dont have to be religious to use a common sense extrapolations. Almost everyone admits that the universe is FT. Penrose who is an atheist says. "I would say the universe has a purpose. It's not there just somehow by chance" He has calculated the initial conditions being so specialized that it had 1 10^10 (123 of happening by chance.

As for biology, even Dawkins admits that biology is the study of complicated things that look designed for a purpose. His thinks its an illusion. I don't.

  • I'm very glad I found this, thanks for uploading. His books "The Mind of God" and "The Goldilocks Enigma~why Is the Universe just right for life" are mindblowers. Personally I do not subscribe to any particular faith or believe in pushing any religious agenda, but other books like Brian Greene's "The Elegant Universe" and "The Fabric of the Cosmos" or Stephen Meyer's "Signature In The Cell" do imply Design, or the most despised word in Science;- Teleology.

  • Clear thinking with a command of the language.

  • Unusual remarks on this video once again.

  • can you deterministically state, that it's not deterministic ?

    ( hint: it's neither option )
