Dame Emma Kirkby, soprano, Jakob Lindberg, Lute, at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, New York, October 20, 2009.
Music: Henry Purcell (1659 - 1695).
Text: John Dryden (1631-1700) and Nathaniel Lee (c. 1653-1692), from "Oedipus: A Tragedy"

Music for a while
Shall all your cares beguile:
Wond'ring how your pains were eas'd
And disdaining to be pleas'd
Till Alecto free the dead
From their eternal bands,
Till the snakes drop from her head,
And the whip from out her hands.

  • Where is this dreadful technique? That's a sixty year old singer who happens to be one of the world's leading Baroque specialists. Sounds purty good to me.

  • How can you say dreadful technique when this is an illegal recording of a well known singer??

Also, this is the style in which Emma Kirkby is renowned.

  • dreadful technique - learn to produce your voice properly then you won't need so many breaths
