The School is embarked on exciting plans for the future, with a view to improving our facilities and ensuring that we can offer the best possible teaching and working environment for the 21st century and to preserving the special spirit of the place which makes us special.

Thanks to the generous funding support from some of our donors, we were able to commission a team of professionals in Spring 2007 to look into our needs and how we might best be able to address these. This initial review was completed in November 2007 and led to the decision, unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees, to commit to a future on our Kennington site where we have been since 1879, and to start planning for a comprehensive refurbishment with some redevelopment within the existing perimeter of our buildings.

In January 2007, we commissioned Alan Higgs Architects with the design of a development scheme which will: * Create 450sqm (or 25%) of additional space for studios, workshops and other teaching facilities; * Substantially address circulation and disabled access issues across the site and particularly in our Georgian terrace houses; * Create a new entrance and better communal facilities for students and staff; * Open up and enhance our presence at street level and onto Cleaver Square.

Preliminary design work (to RIBA Stage C) will be completed by the end of the Summer of 2008, at which point we will start preparing for the launch of a major capital campaign.
