@keinve2 Wrong duel. This was the final duel in the Millennium Kingdom tournament between Yugi and Joey. When Yugi came to realize that he had to face Joey in a duel and that if he won, Joey would not be able to afford the operation that his sister needed. But if Yugi lost, Joey would not be able to stand up to Pegasus' Millennium Eye.

The duel you are mentioning took place in the Battle City Tournament when Marik took control of Joey and forced Joey to duel Yugi.

@got2lovepizza I may be incorrect (it has been fucking AGES since I've watched the actual series), but I believe this was playing in a duel where the loser would be dragged into the ocean to drown. So... yeah. They die if they lose. Also, I think there was mind control involved somewhere...
