The ugliest building I'd ever seen in my entire life. Mensk has a great history, but soviets failed to proper re-build it after the WWII... and it gets even worse with Lukashizm...
You know its funny, most people dont realize that this builiding is an engineering disaster. They failed to insulate the ground water table, therefore the first 2 basement floors are currently flooded. These floors are closed to the public, and the sad thing is that they are not even planning to do anything to remedify the situation.
well lets not go crazy with "coolest thing in eastern europe", cause trust me its not even close. Well I am studying civil engineering right now, and actually spoke to some engineers who worked on that project. It is an interesting acrchitectural piece though.
Ok, but then tell me something that you have seen that is better in E.Europe. I have travelled to most capitol cities in E.Europe ( not been to Georgia,Armenia or Azerbaijan yet however ) and am yet to see something that makes me smile as much. It's not that architectually clever, afterall it's only lights and cable mounted on the outside of a building but it's just something cool surrounded by bleak soviet architecture. I like the ski slope building 1 mile further up the road also.
ok first of all to say that they have the most impressive building in eastern europe is like having the cleanest toilet in Calcutta. But anyways Belarus doesnt have any great heritage buildings like other E.E countries. From modern standpoint, check out dancing building in Prague(I know that Check Republic is more along the lines of central europe but anyways), also its not built yet, but UFO Museum in Lithuania). But thats just the first things that came to mind, I am sure there plenty more
lol! I like the line about toilets in Calcutta :) There is a reason that Minsk has no heritage buildings and that is that the Germans destroyed Minsk, wiped it off the face of the earth so they can be excused on that one. Also it is a city with great examples of Soviet architecture if that is your bag, I personally like the city aesthetically, it's a real Socialist city. As for the library, well let's agree to dissagree on this one, it's subjective but I like it. Peace.
They could turn it into a swimming pool. Then you could read while you swim! Exercise the mind and body! It sounds like a Soviet thing to do and good old Luka loves those bygone Soviet days.
