I built a small drying tray to try out with some plums from our back yard. Will check back in three or four days.

  • @sherry - They came out kinda chewy and sour. Not bad, but not great either. Not sure if the kind of plum matters or what kind we have. Some did fall though the chicken wire rack as they shrunk, but I ended up finding a nice stainless steel grill with smaller holes :)

  • One question, when you leave fruit out in the open like this, what keeps flies from really getting at it? You seem to have a video on jam also, so you must manage well enough...

  • @keenefreelibrary I wondered the same thing (plus what about birds?) and though about covering with some screen, but decided to see what would happen. So far, nothing has bothered the fruit. No flies or birds. The one thing I did find that I had to do was to rotate the fruit and make sure the larger pieces had skin broke on bot sides to allow them to dry properly. A little pinch with your fingers seems to do the job or use a knife.

  • How did they turn out? Did they fall through the holes?
