Devon Maitozo World Championship Winning Vaulting Freestyle, Rome, Italy, 1998

This is when Devon won America's first ever gold medal at a vaulting world championships, still the only male to ever do so. His routine is performed on a German horse named Whisky longed by Marion Gotshalk Doering. His music, edited by Devon, was a mix of songs from Bjork's Homogenic album. The uniform was inspired by the outfits worn in one of Merce Cunningham's post modern dance performances. This is the first year that Devon embraced his newly found appreciation for modern dance as inspiration for his choreography.

I think he brings what I feel we're loosing in "modern" vaulting, it's described as gymnastics AND dance, a lot of people are forgetting the dance. All of Devon's work shows dance team, freestyle, even comps. have a flow with him. I miss it.
