Since humans alone are responsible for desimating any known polpulation for personal fortitude, crocodiles should be commended for descimating only those humans wary enough to forget these waterway's pinnacle predator. The Egyptians worshiped crocodiles and the great felines(Lions, Tigers). Any historian knows that humans attack in hordes on the weary. Only the worn would know that the lone apex predator can attack a horde of weary and still bring the most wary home to dinner for the drury...

They've been around for a very, very long time. They've survived countless extinctions, ice ages, climate changes, you name it. Their blood contains antibodies that make them immune to bacteria which humans cannot tolerate. They aren't really challenged by any other animal.
I guarantee you that they'll be around long after humans go extinct.

@omega45red its hard to tell- overall nile crocs are much bigger, but there is a a species of caiman called the black caiman and they can literally reach 20+ feet- theres a remote spot in brazil where ive seen legit 18 foot black caiman
