It's very much like Propellerhead's ReBirth (remember that one?) and other step-sequencers. I tried to demonstrate how some of it works but my big sausage fingers +plus+ trying to face my MacBook's cam just proved more challenging than I thought.

What's cool about it is that not only can you set each note in each step of the sequence, but the type of oscillator per note (ie square, sine or white noise for snares/claps), the volume of each step, and you've got 3 octaves to choose from.

But that's not the best part - as shown in the video, it's using the iPhone's accelerometer to mess with the filters - the cutoff and resonance.

  • Soundsets for other (more 'capable') synths and samplers have been available for some time - that emulate the old lo-fi, low bit-rate video game sounds. You've heard a lot of top 'pop' hits that use sounds like this. Or worse. There's no place for snobbery in music. Someone will put this thing on a hit record and you'll be dragging out your linoleum sheet, and trying to breakdance to it.

[Worse, Timbaland will sample THIS very youtube clip and use it on a Rihanna song.]

  • I constantly jailbreak my phone also, but truthfully now days I wait weeks and forget about it often because the best apps out there are legit and if they cost money, they are generally cheap. Beatmaker for example is probably still the best app on iphone, and its a legit program. No free drum program has even scratched the surface yet. For music and legit purposes, just like with a real puter, you need well funded and professional apps if you want the quality and stability. I (L) OpenSource too

  • as long as you can't timesync all the synth apps these tools are just toys to mess around with but no serious synths, drum computers or bass machines
