Oh the folks at Aeria Games are at it again. This time, just like following in the shoes of Perfect World, Aeria has produced a free to play FPS game. I truly am beginning to wonder if these F2P producers are all cut from the same world and have just tiny amounts of flair to differentiate them.

As you might know from previous uploads, PWE put out Blacklight Retribution. I actually like that game a lot and still play it. Sadly BF3 has cut into a lot of my FPS time. Repulse here is closed beta but Aeria seems pretty loose with giving out keys. I will say Repulse had more people playing (read as populated servers) than BL. This video contains some footage of the training missions you can go through. They help you get used to the game and give you some credits you can use to buy upgraded guns. Yep you guessed it, it's just like BL. Also like BL, when you purchase an item, it only lasts for a day on the default purchase style.

The training missions walk you through a generic movement tutorial and then it proceeds onto CTF and 2 game types called Sabotage and Demolition. In Demotion, it's a tiny bit like the Assault game type from the UT series. Basically one team tries to protect an area from getting a charge set off on it while the other team attempts to plant the charge and then protect it until it blows up. In Sabotage, you basically get energy cells around the map and upload it to your energy convertor that powers a big vehicle. Killing an enemy carrying an energy cell allows you to steal it. This mode seems unique and kind of reminds me of resource gathering in an RTS.

While the tutorials only talked about 3 game types, I noticed there were a few more in the server selections (actual gameplay will be another video). The website does mention more types like Evac and Invasion. From playing online, I feel it's a mix of a style 1/2 in between UT99 and 2K4 with some Red Faction sprinkles. The graphics feel a bit outdated and watching players lag around the map, it REALLLLLLLYYYY looked like the floaty nature of players in RF circa 2001-ish. If I had to pick a favorite out of this and BL, BL wins hands down but I'll be giving Repulse more of a try to find out.
