Organ Trio Night 01/28/11 (part 4)

Ahh, the lost art of a jazz ballad. I love to play (and compose) ballads. "When Sunny Gets Blue" is one I have always loved to play. It seems like some tunes are just made for organ, archtop guitar and drums. I love how I can play in the lower register over the organ sustained chords. Ballads, for me, are very conducive to over the bar line phrasing. I love to play over the time or sort of analog it by loose phrasing. I love how Dave turns it into swing so carefully and tastfully on his solo. You can see my emotional responses to this during his solo. (if you wonder what the heck I am saying to him) I was in ballad heaven.
