Protesters revamp an old classic Pink Floyd tune to drive the message home to BP that the Tar Sands are not an ethical investment, as they are destroying First Nations communities in Canada.
Frustrated that the Canadian and Alberta governments are ignoring the disastrous environmental and health effects of tar sands development, a delegation of Aboriginal Canadians took their protests to London. "We're currently observing many, many health issues. In worst cases we're facing confirmed escalated levels of cancers—and very rare types of cancer—in the last few years, and we suspect much is attributed to development of tar sands and the contamination of the water, the fish and the wildlife we consume." George Poitras, a former chief of the Mikisew Cree First Nation who hails from Fort Chipewyan, a native community located about 220 kilometres down the Athabasca River from major tar sands projects.
(reposting) Our health, land, air and rights are merely "collateral damage" to our son of an oil baron "leader" harper. The Lupicon Cree's plight is a prime example and a peek into our future. Until now no one heard of Keystone or TranCanada. The recent peaceful civil disobedience has finally brought these proposed catastrophes to light in the mainstream media. We are the change. Thank you
