1. 海地發放 Tzu Chi's aid reaches quake victims
First in the line-up, some updates on Tzu Chi's aid efforts in Haiti.Provisions began reaching the quake victims on January 29, Haiti time, when Tzu Chi held its first small scale distribution at an orphanage in the Pernier area of capital Port-au-Prince. The next aid distribution will take place on February 1, local time, at an orphanage in Tabarre, also located in the Haitian capital. Before the end of this week, Tzu Chi will also launch its "food-for-work" program, in which participants will be invited to help with post-quake clean-up and reconstruction projects in exchange for food for themselves and their family members. On February 11, a large scale aid distribution is slated to take place in Tabarre. Lastly, on February 12, nearly 9,000 Tzu Chi blankets from the US will reach the Dominican Republic, from where they will be transported to Haiti. First, however, we take a closer look at the aforementioned January 29th distribution at the Pernier orphanage, where children and staff there received food, gas stoves, as well as 300 reusable meal sets.
Does anybody know how to find the estimated, updated number of deaths?
The highest I have heard of is 200,000 and updates on Haiti are more difficult to find now that it is not "important" or new news anymore.
Anyone have any information on it? Or any suggestions that would help me find more than general information? Specific details if possible? thanks.
Poor people. My heart goes out to them - I wish them the best and I hope that I can find ways of doing more than just donating money.
