In January 2009, Leslie Mirise and Jenni Odum found nine horses in awful conditions. Their owner had run a successful horse ranch, but age and resources had failed her and she could no longer care for her horses, leaving them with little food and no veterinary care. Their owner agreed to have Leslie and Jenni help care for them, as well as find new homes for them.
One in particular, Anna, provided a problem. Blind, with eye infections, and horribly overgrown hooves, she stood little chance of finding a good home. Jenni then came to Redwings Horse Sanctuary in Lockwood, California, to see if they could provide her one. Redwings agreed to provide Anna with a permanent home with all the food and veterinary care she would need.
Anna was temporarily cared for at the equine veterinary practice of Dr. Jim Garfinkle of At Farm Veterinary Services in Plymouth, California. Once Redwings had a place ready for her, Carrie Moul brought her to the Redwings ranch on April 21, 2009, where she begins her new life.
